The TLDF 2009 - Building their tomorrows, today!

The research TIS undertook and presented at the TLDF 2008 indicated that the age of LD detection (in Mumbai) is currently 11.5 years (corresponding to grades six and seven in secondary school).

In addition, research studies and presentations by keynote speakers at the TLDF 2008 indicated that early detection of LD is beneficial in that remedial education delivered earlier is more effective, hence increasing the chances of remediation and a better future for the child.

Hence, with the intention of progressing from these outcomes, TIS has selected ‘Early Detection’ as the key focus area for the TLDF 2009.

TIS will be specifically targeting the primary school teachers, this year, to educate them and create more awareness of LD in this segment. Additionally, the agenda for this event has been designed to address specific issues around early detection of LD such as early medical detection, remediation approaches, diagnostic tools and screening checklists that can facilitate early LD detection in schools.

TIS is also continuing to work with researchers and social scientists, as well as the LTMG Hospital’s pediatrics students, on research/survey-oriented activities aligned with the goals of early detection.
